Lighting Your Way Podcast Shares Tips, Practical Advice for Receiving the Best Healthcare
Philadelphia, PA – DATE – The Lighting Your Way podcast, which helps people navigate the complex healthcare system in order to receive the best care for themselves or their loved ones, has launched its ninth season. Building on the success of season 8, the show will continue to focus on interviews with patients facing complex, chronic, and/or life-threatening conditions.
The first seven seasons featured Betty Long, RN, MHA, interviewing her colleagues as they shared real-life stories of nurse advocacy and helping patients through difficult, complicated, unexpected, and long-term medical issues. Now, the founder, CEO, and President of Guardian Nurses Healthcare Advocates speaks with patients about their healthcare journeys directly.
In its new format, the Lighting Your Way Podcast continues its primary goal of sharing tips and practical advice so that listeners can advocate for themselves and their loved ones in healthcare settings, making sure that they get the best healthcare possible.
The first episode of Season 9 features Lexi Livanos, who, like millions of Americans, struggles with debilitating migraines. When her prescribed therapies stopped being effective, her doctors dismissed her concerns. Then, with the help of a nurse advocate and a second opinion, she got the help she needed — and her life back.
During Season 8, which is available at https://www.guardiannurses.com/lighting-your-way/, Crystal Chuck shares what it’s like to be one of the 20% of cancer survivors who face a new, different type of cancer later in life. Peter Friedrichs describes the difficulties in finding rehabilitative care for his wife after they both were in a catastrophic car accident. Linda Long, a 30-year veteran of the Philadelphia Fire Department, spoke candidly about her brain cancer diagnosis and how the Optune treatment for Glioblastoma has helped her live far beyond her original prognosis. Marc Czarkowski, who is living with stage 4 lung cancer, discusses how failures in communication and empathy made his already difficult journey harder.
Betty Long, RN, MHA, started the podcast in March 2021 as a natural outgrowth of her work at Guardian Nurses, which currently helps hundreds of thousands of patients in the United States through its innovative Patient Advocacy and Mobile Care Coordinator® Programs.
“We are teaching people about patient advocacy and also how to advocate for themselves by giving them a glimpse into the stories of people who have been through the healthcare system,” says Long. “We want to give listeners the tools they need to put the control back in their hands.”
The Lighting Your Way podcast’s name and logo were inspired by nurse pioneer Florence Nightingale, who is often depicted with a lantern in her hand and is sometimes called the “Lady With the Lamp.” It is a fitting metaphor for the podcast’s mission, which is to help shed light on the mystery of the medical system.
The eighth and ninth seasons of the Lighting Your Way podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher. Or stream it online at https://www.guardiannurses.com/lighting-your-way/.
