Guardian Nurses President Betty Long recently reconnected with Dr. Mehmet Oz, famous nationally for his syndicated TV program, “The Dr. Oz Show,” when he brought his “15-Minute Physical” event to Philadelphia on May 19.
Held at Temple University’s Health Sciences Campus, the event’s promise of a free screening for heart disease and diabetes attracted a capacity crowd of 1,000 people, some from out of state.
At the event, Dr. Oz reconnected with Betty Long, who was a guest on his show the year before, in March 2011. As he talked with people about health issues detected in the screening, he advised them to follow up with their primary healthcare provider.
When people expressed frustration about dealing with the healthcare system, or said they were unable to access healthcare services, Dr. Oz introduced them to Long. If she was busy with another patient, Dr. Oz handed them Long’s business card and suggested they contact Guardian Nurses for assistance.
Two of the patients Long is assisting as a result of Dr. Oz’s referrals are a Philadelphia woman in need of specialized cardiac follow up care and a Bronx, NY woman in need of prompt treatment for her high blood pressure and diabetes.
