Advocacy services are provided by professional Registered Nurses with a passion for helping patients

Guardian Nurses advocacy services are performed by professional registered nurses and social workers who have a passion for helping patients and at least 15 years of experience in nursing and healthcare issues. All of them have outstanding clinical knowledge as well as significant experience managing and coordinating care. Their experience, maturity and knowledge of community resources provide patients and families with the best possible advocate to get them the help they need. You can be assured that each team member is working solely on your behalf and has your best interests in mind. Below you’ll read about some members of our team (those that aren’t camera shy).

Joanne Berkowitz, RN, CHPN

Nurse Berkowitz began her nursing career in critical care and spent many years in the acute setting before she found her way to palliative care and hospice. She has a solid knowledge of oncology as well as other disease processes and is passionate about guiding and supporting patients.

Julianne Bonacci, RN

Nurse Bonacci has worked in nursing for ‘only’ 10 years but prior to that she worked in television broadcasting. Her clinical experience includes cardiac care, medical-surgical patients as well as working in an outpatient obstetrics/gynecology office.

Katie Carruthers, RN, BSN, CCM

Nurse Carruthers helps patients with insurance issues, be those issues be claims or appeals or just questions. She has experience in pediatrics as well as adult cardiac care. Her certification in case management came in 2013.

Alison Christy, RN, BSN

Nurse Christy has extensive experience in nursing, insurance, medical auditing, business management, and expertise in victim advocacy in crisis situations. Living now in a rural, underserved area, she serves in many roles including teaching, coaching, group facilitation, case management, disabilities, mental health and maternal/infant services.

Linda Clark, RN, BSN, CCM

Nurse Clark comes to us most recently from working as a case manager in a cancer specialty hospital.  Prior to that role, she worked as a case manager for infants through young adults at a pediatric hospital.  She has also worked as a care coordinator at a large insurance company and as a staff nurse in a med-surg pediatric unit.

Rebecca Rivkin-Czarkowski, RN, BSN

Nurse Czarkowski is one of our Team Leads and often works closely on our Advocacy Services team.  Nursing is a second career for Rebecca.  Since graduating 13 years ago from nursing school, she has worked as an emergency room nurse in several hospitals before taking a role as a case manager and team lead, managing 19 care managers in a specialty oncology hospital.

Nurse Fitzpatrick began her nursing career in 1993 and through the years, has worked in both pediatric and adult nursing as well as several positions in clinical research and clinical trials.

Nurse Kane comes to us with more than 33 years in nursing.  Her most recent experience was managing a large cardiology physician practice. She has also worked in pediatrics, adult critical care, and nursing management.

Denise Marceron, RN

Nurse Marceron is our southernmost nurse advocate! She lives in Florida and has 30 years nursing experience. She has extensive background in cardiovascular intensive care, research, elder care, hospice and insurance. Besides encouraging us all to come to Florida, Denise loves making a difference!

Tish McBride, RN

Nurse McBride has more than 29 years as a nurse delivering patient care in med-surg and rehab units, as well as roles as a clinical care coordinator and IV/PICC Line specialist.  She also has done compliance reviews and managed an out-patient chemotherapy center.

Nurse Morla joins our Mobile Care Coordinator team for the Allied Welfare Fund members of Local 338 (Staten Island, NY) with 12 years of nursing experience.  Most recently, Marian worked in hospice as an intake nurse, but has also worked in women’s health, case management, insurance review, and in home care throughout the five-boroughs.

Heidi Petersohn, RN, BSN, CPT

Nurse Petersohn brings more than 20 years of nursing experience starting as an Army Captain and staff nurse at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Her career includes pediatrics, school nursing, and oncology. More recently, she has worked as a wellness and fitness coach and personal trainer.

Nurse Pellicciotti is a nurse who joins us with 27 years of diverse clinical experience including pediatrics, eating disorders, transplants, home care, infertility and nursing management. She also has worked in insurance appeals and claims’ work.

Peggy Pierce, RN, BSN

Nurse Pierce, comes to us after 28 years in various acute clinical settings, including the emergency room and later, the cardiac cath lab. She has also worked in nursing education at an urban medical center as well as in nursing management.

Nurse Pigeon joins our team with many years of varied experience most recently in cardiac transplant.  With more than 18 years as a nurse and as a manager, she has worked in acute care settings as well as a case manager at an insurance company.

Elton Richardson, MSS

Mr. Richardson brings more than 25 years experience to the Guardian Nurses team as a mental health social worker. He is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College where he earned a Master’s of Social Work degree. An active member of his community, he also was elected to the School Board in November 2012.

Nurse Rudi has more than 25 years working in healthcare, the last 12 of which have been as a critical care nurse.  She has extensive experience working with diverse clinical situations including cardiac, endocrinology, orthopedic.

Robin Sambuco, RN, BSN

Nurse Sambuco is one of our Team Leads and works with our MCC Programs.  She joined Guardian Nurses’ team with more than 15 years of clinical and management experience in pediatrics. She has worked with patients of all ages, though, and feels strongly that everyone needs an advocate–regardless of their age or situation! In August, 2015, she was named as a FINALIST for the 2015 Pennsylvania Nightingale Awards!

Nurse Spector joins us from Long Island, NY! She has enjoyed a diverse career in nursing for more than 37 years.  She, too, has worked in both the pediatric and adult worlds, both as a staff nurse and a manager, and in the hospital, in schools, and in home care.

Kate Wesztergom, RN, BSN

Nurse Wesztergom graduated in 1995 and immediately began working in oncology. She worked at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York on both their ‘day hospital’ and bone marrow transplant units before returning to Philadelphia to work in neonatal intensive care and special care nursery.  Her experience also includes roles as case and utilization managers at insurance companies.
