Our Team:

All Guardian Nurses services are performed by professional registered nurses who have expertise in nursing and health care issues. All of them have outstanding clinical assessment skills as well as significant experience managing and coordinating care. Their experience, maturity and knowledge of community resources provide you with your own nurse advocate. You can be assured that each Nurse Advocate is working solely on your behalf and has your best interests in mind. Below you'll read about a few members of our team (those who were not camera-shy).

Betty Long, RN, MHA

President and founder, Betty Long, RN, MHA has 23 years nursing experience in clinical, management and consulting capacities. Nurse Long has a long history of healthcare advocacy with special expertise in critical care, long-term care and geriatric care management. She is a board member of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Case Management Society of America as well as a member of the National Patient Advocate Foundation/Advocates Alliance for Action and the National Association of Women Business Owners. She also is a contributing editor for Employee Benefit News.

Karen Coughlin, RN, BS

Nurse Coughlin offers extensive clinical experience in critical care, the operating room and neurology (with an emphasis on epilepsy.) Her 20+ year nursing career includes management and research. She has also served as a legal nurse consultant in the Philadelphia area.

Mary Sharon Rumsey, RN, MSN

Nurse Rumsey has specialized in breast cancer and women's health issues since 1991. Her 30-year career also includes experience in psychiatric nursing, general oncology, and patient coaching. She has held administrative positions at two nationally-known academic medical centers, the most recent being in Philadelphia.

Patricia Bernard, RN

Patricia Bernard, RN

Nurse Bernard's area of expertise is cardiology. She has worked as a cardiovascular researcher and specialized in working with patients with congestive heart failure. Her 25-year nursing career also includes experience in hospice, medical-surgical units and nurse management.

Barbara Pugh, RN, BSN

Barbara Pugh, RN, MSN

Nurse Pugh specializes in pulmonary diseases. She also has a broad background in case management with operational experience in insurance procedures and resolutions. Her 20+ year nursing career spans critical care, medical/surgical and clinical research. She recently received her masters degree in nursing from Villanova University.

Judy Mancini, RN

Judy Mancini, RN

Nurse Mancini has more than twenty year's experience as a critical care nurse, specializing in cardiac surgery. She has expertise in helping patients with a wide variety of cardiac diagnoses and multi-system diseases and failures. She has also worked with patients and family members in identifying and resolving quality of care issues during hospitalizations and nursing home stays.

Judy Mancini, RN

Joanne Simone, RN, MBA

Nurse Simone has both adult and pediatric patient experience upon which to draw for her advocacy work. For more than 30 years, she has worked in multiple states and multiple settings both as a case manager and as a staff nurse. Her broad range of expertise makes her a wonderful resource for patients and families on a variety of issues both in acute and long-term care.

Judy Mancini, RN

Pamela Buckner, RN, BS

Nurse Buckner brings more than 20 years experience specific to the managed care arena, having worked at several large health insurance companies. Her specialties include claims management and analysis, risk assessment, case and disease management. She also brings direct patient care experience in maternal child health, oncology, and general medical-surgical units.

Mary Ellen Bense, RN, BSN

Nurse Bense brings many years of home care and hospice management, hospital administration and healthcare business expertise to the Guardian Nurses team. Her nursing background also includes working with diverse clinical issues in a range of ages, from children to the elderly in hospital and community settings.
