He was even more alarmed about having surgery to remove it. Our nurse advocate arranged a second opinion with a doctor specializing in a non-invasive treatment to shrink the tumor. The doctor opted to observe the tumor for six months. After one year an MRI shows no evidence of the tumor. The doctor surmised that the original tumor could have been a misdiagnosed inflammation. No further treatment was necessary.

The nurse advocate encouraged Maria to talk to her doctor and gave her a list of questions. The doctor changed her medication. Maria takes the new medication daily and reports no further problems.
